Donald Trump invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination when he refused to answer questions from the New York attorney general.

The deposition, which had been delayed a month because of the death of his former wife Ivana Trump, will take place just days after federal agents searched the Mar-a-Lago residence of the former president.
After losing a court battle to quash the subpoenas, Trump and his children agreed to sit for as many as seven hours of sworn testimony. The New York Attorney General is looking into whether the Trump Organization manipulated asset valuations to get more favorable terms for bank loans and insurance.

The former president was fined $10,000 a day and held in contempt of court after he failed to respond to a related subpoena. The president racked up $110,000 in fines.
Every time the Trump Organization tried to convince a judge that the investigation was politically motivated, it failed. James was sued by Trump in federal court in order to stop the investigation. The case was thrown out by a judge.
The criminal investigation is being conducted by the Manhattan District Attorney. Bragg's office brought tax charges against Trump's company and CFO.
