For 24 hours after the FBI executed a search warrant at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort and residence in South Florida, Republicans of almost every stripe defended him.

The Biden administration was accused of using Nazi-style tactics to execute a criminal search warrant on Trump. It wasn't mentioned that the search was related to Trump's alleged illegal removal of highly sensitive government documents from the White House and a series of reports about his habit of destroying documents.

The GOP believes that the "deep state" is trying to get Trump because of the attack on the Capitol.

A former Trump adviser said Tuesday that it seemed like the FBI was reacting differently to how Hillary was treated and how Hunter was treated than it was to how the president was treated. There are two systems of justice in this country.

The former adviser said the Justice Department probably would have phoned and asked for the documents back if Obama had removed them the same way.

The clock is running out before the elections, so this is to show that they are doing something. It won't work.

Concerns about the legal problems for Trump, stemming from his reported records destruction, and his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss, were behind the scenes. According to Rolling Stone, Trump was building another criminal defense team to help him.

Veteran Republican operatives said that it was a mess. One person said it was called "chaos."

The White House said Tuesday that Biden had no idea what the agents were looking for.

The latest stunning event around Trump played out almost entirely in the political sphere, with a keen focus on the shadow primary for the Republican nomination.

On Fox News, the former president's daughter-in-law said that the raid likely means that Trump will announce his third bid for the White House in a few days. He was supposed to announce before July 4. There was talk that he would announce his third run before the 2020 elections.

In a text blast to his supporters, Trump said that his beautiful home had been occupied by a large group of FBI agents and that he had beenraided.

Biden and the Justice Department were blasted by the wide-open field of possible 2024 candidates who were reticent to weigh in on revelations from the January hearings.

The search on Trump's property was decried by both the governor of Maryland and the vice president of the United States.

Tim Scott, a rising star in the party, told CBS News, "We need to let this play out and see what happens."

Chris Christie, a former federal prosecutor, was the only big-name Republican who supported the Justice Department.
