Since its debut, Disney Plus has become a service filled with animated shorts. They are different in quality. There are some examples of brand synergy, such as when the Simpsons had a group of people hang out. There are some great things, including some classic-style Mickey Mouse shorts, a refreshing take on Star Wars, and a series about Baymax from Big Hero6. There is a short list of shorts.
In retrospect, the series seems inescapable. Since he was turned into a baby, he has been the comic relief of the universe. There are a number of animated shorts that are related to the movie that he is in. Those should be turned into shorts. The entire thing lasts 20 minutes, and the episodes are just a few minutes long. As long as there is a post-credits scene in the movie.
The gimmick doesn't last long enough to overstay its welcome in this area. There's a lot of different things. One of the shorts has the feel of a sci-fi horror story while the other has a fistfight with a tree. The slapstick comedy is built around the fact that Groot makes extremely bad choices and that he gets upset over the smallest of things. There isn't much to say about it other than it's fun and goofy and will appeal to the kind of people who loved seeing a tiny Groot dance in a flower pot. He is surfing on a bar of soap.
I Am Groot is not a series that will make you sign up for a service. It makes me want to see more experimentation on these platforms. I don't get it, but the big-budget shows are great. Without a TV schedule to follow, I would love to see more offbeat shows like I Am Groot. That is one of the reasons I enjoyed What If... It just didn't feel right.
That may be happening already, at least in part, due to the large lineup of animated superhero shows that are in the works for Disney Plus. The details of the live-action movies and shows will be filled in by some. At least a few will be as essential as watching Groot relax.
Disney Plus will show I Am Groot on August 10.
