Electricite de France asked the state to reimburse it for losses after the government forced it to sell power at lower prices.
The company asked the Conseil d'Etat, France's highest administrative court, to overturn the orders requiring it to sell electricity at a discounted rate.
The court case shows the tension between the roles of a publicly traded company and an arm of the French state. France wants to nationalize the debt-laden company to keep consumer electricity bills in check and reduce the country's dependence on fossil fuels.
The Finance Ministry didn't respond to an email or phone call.
