A key ally of former President Donald Trump claims that federal agents seized his cell phone a day after executing a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago.
3 FBI agents visited me and seized my cell phone while I traveled with my family, according to a statement provided to Insider.
The FBI gave him a reason for taking the phone but he did not say what it was.
The phone of a sitting Member of Congress was seized by the FBI under the direction of the DOJ.
The search warrant was not provided by the office of the governor.
The director of the FBI, Christopher Wray, is a holdover from the Trump administration.
In the aftermath of the 2020 election, Perry supported efforts to overturn the results. In text messages obtained by the House committee investigating the January 6 insurrection, former Trump Chief of Staff MarkMeadows was urged to have US officials seize the voting machines.
At a December 2020 meeting at the White House, Trump was introduced to Jeffrey Clark, a Justice Department official who promoted a scheme to have Georgia Republicans convene a special session of the legislature to block Biden's win. The acting attorney general was considered by Trump.
The home of Clark was searched in June.
The Department of Justice did not respond to a request for comment.
The person has not been accused of a crime. In testimony before the January 6 committee, Cassidy Hutchinson, a former Trump White House aide, said that several Republican lawmakers requested a pardon for their actions related to the 2020 election. He called it a "soulless lie."
