According to a survey conducted just over a month ago, respondents from both parties have become more likely to view their political opponents in a negative light.

A majority of Democrats think Republicans are more close-minded than other Americans, and they think Republicans are more dishonest.

The number of Republicans who think Democrats are more close-minded has increased by 17 points, while the number of Republicans who think Democrats are more dishonest has increased by 27 points.

The percentage of Republicans and Democrats who view the other party unfavorably has not changed since the first year of the survey.

The share of respondents with an unfavorable view of both parties is now at 27%, an all-time high and up from 21% in 2019.

There were 6,174 adults who participated in the poll.

According to a 2020 working paper published by the National Bureau of Economic Research, political polarization has risen faster in the US than in other countries. The paper looked at 149 political surveys conducted between the late 1970s and 2020 and found that in six countries it had fallen and in the US it had risen. The centrist Forward party was formed by a group of former Democratic and Republican lawmakers.
