According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, the Dallas Cowboys will be releasing Jonathan Garibay on Tuesday.

There will be a competition between the two kickers.

It won't be his second rodeo with the Cowboys.

He made just 65 of his 84 field goal attempts while with the team.

Zuerlein missed 13 field goals and nine extra points over the last two seasons.

The news that the team was going to sign Maher was not received with enthusiasm.

It is literally a step BACKWARDS for the Cowboys to even *consider* bringing in Brett Maher.

I have no idea why they are hellbent on doing everything that they can to avoid improving the kicking game.

Jerry Jones said *last Saturday* that he wanted consistency on extra points from the Dallas Cowboys kickers. The Cowboys moved on from Greg Zuerlein this offseason and now feel Brett Maher is a possible answer.

Maher was a less accurate extra point kicker in 2021 than Zuerlein.

Working out Brett Maher is a pretty good indication the Cowboys absolutely do not listen to and/or do not care about the court of public opinion. https://t.co/j8ivKlNbJm

After spending the 2020 season on the practice squad with the New York Jets, Washington Commanders, Houston Texans and ArizonaCardinals, Maher spent half the 2021 season with the New Orleans Saints, finishing 16-of-18 on field goals and 10-of-12 on extra points.

It was an improvement from his days in Dallas, but he is still in the running.

Cowboys kicker Lirim Hajrullahu made 12-of-13 field goals in his longest single period of live work of training camp. His final make from 45 featured a fortuitous bounce. Brett Maher already kicked this morning. https://t.co/YbFyO2bbHg pic.twitter.com/eIDk5rM7J0

Lirim Hajrullahu got the memo. We will see how he does in Mojo Moments but he was absolutely lethal from all distances to begin practice. #Cowboys

Your move, Brett.

During his career, Hajrullahu has appeared in four games in the National Football League with the Cowboys and the Carolinas. He was 4-of-5 on field goals and 8-of-8 on extra points.

There is a kicking competition in Dallas between a player who struggled during his time with the team and a player who has never played in the league. It's likely that kicker will be a concern for the Cowboys in the upcoming campaign.
