Taylor Swift said she couldn't have ripped off the lyrics from a song she'd never heard before.

Swift said in her declaration that the lyrics to Shake It Off were written by her. The band 3LW filed a lawsuit against Swift in order to get her to stop using their songs.

The full filing can be found here.

Sean Hall and Nathan Butler claim that Swift's line "players gonna play" is too similar to their song " Playas Gon' Play"

Swift was 12 years old when that song reached the top of the charts. According to the filing, Swift's parents didn't allow her to watch the "TRL" show until she was about 13 years old.

I didn't listen to any CDs by 3LW when I was a child. Swift said that she had never heard the song on the radio, on television or in a film. After this claim was made, the first time I heard the song was.

Swift said she heard the phrase "players gonna play" and "haters gonna hate" a lot before writing Shake It Off.

An appeal panel resurrected the lawsuit in 2021.

Rob Tricchinelli helped with the project.
