Domino's Pizza made its debut in Milan seven years ago.

The fast food giant closed the last of its 29 stores on the Italian Peninsula because locals were hard to get along with.

Users mocked Domino's for attempting to establish a foothold in the homeland of pizza in the first place after the company left Italy.

Domino's opened its first store in Italy in 2015. CNBC reported at the time that it was going to win customers over with products like Prosciutto di Parma, Gorgonzola, Grana Padano and Mozzarella di bufala Campana.

When in-person dining was shut down by the Pandemic, local pizzerias decided to deliver pizza to Italians.

The Italian Domino's franchise company blamed increased competition in the food delivery market for its poor performance in an earnings report last year.

CNBC made a request for comment from a representative for Domino's.
