According to a former White House communications director, the FBI raid on the Mar-a-Lago property could be the key to his victory in the presidential election in four years.

In an appearance on CNN's "New Day," she said she hoped the investigation was about more than Trump not complying with certain archive laws and that the DOJ "handed" Trump the Republican nomination.

She said it was a good day for Donald Trump if it was seen as a massive overreach.

The FBI executed a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago on Monday, with one of Trump's sons, Eric Trump, saying in an interview that the raid was over documents that the National Archives sought.

According to reports, the National Archives was asked by the DOJ to look into Trump's handling of records after they recovered 15 boxes that he should have given.

If the documents that the FBI seized contain vital national security information, then they could pose a grave national security risk if they were to fall into the wrong hands or be made public.

She said Trump knows how to use the FBI raid to his advantage, as he broke the news of the raid, and she has seen consistent Republican messaging calling the country abanana republic. She wants the DOJ to be involved in the investigation.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy called for an investigation into the DOJ if Republicans regain control of the House in the November elections.

The specificity of the raid, knowing to look into Trump's safe and for specific documents, may indicate that a witness who is close to Trump's inner circle is cooperating and telling officials where to look.
