According to an Apple analyst, there is a possibility of a charging case for the AirPods in the future. It doesn't look like we'll see a Lightning port on the AirPods Pro 2, but it's possible that the case will still feature the feature.

If you want to swap charging cables with a current iPhone but don't want them to be incompatible with everything else, you should add aUSB-C port to the case. It saves you from going through the trouble of sawing into your existing case and replacing it with a new one.

I predict Apple will launch USB-C-capable charging cases for all AirPods models in 2023. However, the charging case of the new AirPods Pro 2 launched in 2H22 may still support Lightning.

In May, it was suggested that Apple was working on a phone that could work with a cable. Mark Gurman, an Apple watcher, has said that Apple has begun testing the new phone with the new accessory of the same name. According to Gurman, we shouldn't expect to see the devices on the market until later in the decade.

Apple is rumored to be pushing to swap the ports on its other devices in order to comply with a new law in the EU. The law requires all phones sold in the country to be compatible with theusb-c by fall of 2024.
