Several Republican leaders reacted with anger Monday after the FBI searched former President Donald Trump's private Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida and many of them echoed Trump's claims about a political "witch hunt" against him.
Kevin McCarthy warned Attorney General Merick Garland of an investigation into the department once Republicans take back the House.
The head of the FBI was accused of being radicalized to take political enemies out by a vocal supporter of the former President.
Lauren Boebert called the search "Gestapo cr*p" as she called for the DOJ to be cleaned out.
Florida state legislator Anthony Sabatini, who is running for Congress in November, called on the Legislature to "sever all ties" with the Justice Department and to arrest any FBI agent "conducting law enforcement functions outside of the purview of our State"
Ron DeSantis, who is seen as a potential Republican primary opponent for Trump in the presidential election, backed the former president and called the U.S. aBanana Republic.
Both Trump and the GOP have used the incident as a chance to raise money, sending out emails and texts to people to defend Trump.
The support for Trump was not limited to American conservatives, as British right wing politician and former European Parliament member,Nigel Farage, claimed, after hearing about the raid.

FBI agents searched Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence as part of an investigation into whether the former president broke federal laws with regards to the handling of White House classified records. The National Archives and Records Administration said in January that it received 15 boxes of documents from the White House. The former president took the documents to his private residence despite returning them. Trump claimed that the FBI agents broke into his safe. The FBI and DOJ did not issue a statement on the search as of Tuesday.
Trump said that FBI agents searched Mar-A-Lago in an "unannounced raid".
The Washington Post reported that top Republicans were in agreement with Trump.
The materials taken from the White House appear to be the focus of the search. The New York Times is a daily newspaper in the United States.
