Serena Williams will retire from tennis in the coming weeks, possibly after the US Open.

The 40-year-old Williams wrote that she was going to appear on the cover of Vogue.

It's a time in life when we have to make a decision. It's difficult when you love something so much. I like to play tennis. The clock has started. Being a mom, my spiritual goals, and finally discovering a different, but exciting Serena, are some of the things I have to focus on. These next few weeks are going to be great for me.

Williams has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, one shy of Margaret Court's all-time mark, but she is considered the greatest female player of all time. She won her last major at the Australian Open while pregnant with her daughter.

She has more Grand Slam match wins than any other woman. The next woman with over 300 is Navrati.

Chris Evert said during the broadcast of the truncated match at Wimbledon that her legacy was already sealed. It doesn't matter if she never matches Margaret Court. She's still the best.

Williams has a net worth of over $250 million. Her career prize money is more than double that of any other female athlete.

The life of Serena and Venus' father, Richard Williams, who quit his job to coach his daughters in tennis on public hard courts in California, was chronicled in the film King Richard. His wife provided for the family after he did so.

Serena said in a Red Table interview with Will Smith that her father stopped working at one point. He said, "This is what we're going to do." I won't have a job. I'm going to train Venus and Serena daily. If my husband told me that, that would be impossible for me.

She said that her mother had to support seven people.

Richard Williams told a tennis coach that he had the next two Michael Jordans when he was a player.

Rick Macci told Richard that there was more to Venus. He put his arm around me and said, "Oh no brother, I got the next two."

On Monday, Williams won her first singles match in over a decade, beating Nuria Parrizas in Toronto.

She beat Danielle Collins in the third round of the French Open.

Williams wanted to be on the court. I really enjoy playing in Toronto. I have excelled in the past. I was out here doing my job.

Williams returned to the singles court at Wimbledon last month but lost in the first round to Tan.

She has a chance to win some matches if she gets two or three in a row going into the U.S. Open, according to Andy Roddick. I think the only chance she has to make a big run in New York City is to locate her base over the next couple of weeks.

Serena is playing her first hard court event since the Australian Open.

She won the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati two years in a row.

August 29th is when the U.S. Open starts. That will be her last song.
