The new feature will allow users to leave a group chat without anyone knowing.

It can be awkward to pull out of a group chat as everyone knows you're leaving. It can be annoying in large groups.

The admins will be notified when someone leaves the group. This month, the feature will be rolled out to all users of the messaging service.

It is one of a number of measures the platform is taking. Users will be able to hide their presence so that others can't see them.

A setting is being tested that will stop contacts from stybing "view once" messages, which can't be accessed again after being opened.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta which owns the messaging service, said in a Facebook post Tuesday that it would build new ways to protect messages and keep them as private as possible.

"We're focused on building product features that empower people to have more control and privacy over their messages."

"Over the years, we have added interlocking layers of protection to help keep their conversations secure, and the new features is one way we continue to deliver on our promise to keep messages private."

A number of changes have been made to Meta's platforms recently.

A new feed that shows posts from friends and family in reverse chronological order was created by the firm.

TikTok is owned by China's ByteDance and Meta is trying to win favor with younger "Gen Z" users who have shied away from social media platforms.

TikTok's feed is addictive because it recommends content based on what users will be most interested in.
