Sources told CNN that Donald Trump's lawyers received instructions to secure the room in which he stored his documents months before the raid.

CNN aides secured the room by adding a padlock, according to sources.

The FBI executed a search warrant at Trump's residence.

According to sources, the search was related to 15 boxes of documents Trump took from the White House to Mar-a-Lago resort. After the National Archives retrieved the documents in February, the FBI was able to confirm that no other documents were left at the resort.

CNN reported that investigators met with Trump's lawyers at Mar-a-Lago to evaluate the documents the president had taken. Sources tell CNN that Trump was present during the meeting.

The CNN report doesn't say when investigators met with Trump, but it does say that Trump aides were interviewed by the FBI.

Trump was in New York City during the search of his office.

Attorneys for the former president took investigators to the basement room at Mar-a-Lago to look over his papers. Sources told CNN that the attorneys received a request to lock that room. The person who sent the letter was not mentioned in the report.

The representatives for Trump did not reply immediately.
