There is an unexploded WWII-era bomb located along the banks of the River Po.

The American-made bomb was found by fishermen near the northern Italian village of Borgo Virgilio. It looked like the bomb had been submerged there for more than 70 years.

Water levels in the River Po, which spans east-west across northern Italy and is the country's longest river, have decreased significantly this summer, following multiple heat waves that hit many parts of Europe.

The bomb weighed over 1000 pounds. The bomb's fuse was cut and it was moved to a quarry 30 miles away. The bomb was destroyed. The controlled explosion did not cause any injuries or damages.

There is a WWII-era "swamp boat" emerging.

Extreme heat waves, which are predicted to become more and more common as a result of ongoing climate change, have been hitting the Northern Hemisphere this summer. According to The Washington Post, Rome reported its highest temperature ever in June, at 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

The ruins of an ancient bridge that was built during the reign of Emperor Nero can be seen on the river bottom. Experts told Live Science that the bridge ruins are only visible during long periods of dry weather.

Roughly one third of Italy's agricultural production takes place in areas surrounding the River Po, which is why Italy declared a state of emergency due to the ongoing dry spell. There was nothing to do with the bomb. The region is in the midst of a severe dry spell.
