One for the Americans.
The all-American version of the Antares rocket will be built by Firefly and will be powered by Russian-built engines. Russia stopped selling its rocket engines to the US due to the war in Ukraine. The former head of Russia's Roscosmos space agency joked that he didn't know what to do with them.
An entirely new medium class launch vehicle and a fully domestic version of the Antares rocket will be developed by the two companies. The combined strategy and technical development plan is being worked on byNorthrop Grumman and Firefly. There are missions to the International Space Station that need to be done.
According to the press release, the new Antares will have seven of Firefly's Miranda engines, as well as "composites technology for the first stage structures and tanks" The two companies will work together on a new vehicle.
The first and only launch attempt for Firefly ended with an abnormality that caused the Flight Termination System to go off. The company is without a CEO after it demoted co- founder Tom Markusic to a technical advisor. A major shakeup took place several months prior, when the former majority shareholder was bought out by a private equity firm.
The lander is going to ride on a rocket in order to get to the moon.
