What our reporters saw

What our NFL Nation reporters saw Sunday

New York Giants said that the summer is going well for Barkley. The Giants practiced a lot of red zone runs. The coach called him "explosive" this summer When he ran in the middle of the field, he beat everyone to the left pilon. This version of the running back is the best one Jon has ever seen, according to the center. One year ago, when he was recovering from a torn kneeACL, he wasn't cleared for contact. He enters the final year of his contract this year and it looks like he's changed a lot.

The good news was that the left knee injury that defensive end Marquis Haynes sustained during Saturday's scrimmage was not as bad as first thought. Haynes is expected to be a day-to-day problem when the team is back in action. Scott Fitterer will still look for depth at end. Carlos Dunlap was considered before he joined the Chiefs. Pierre-Paul is a free agent. The team may wait until they make cuts to add depth. The sense of urgentness is lessened by the fact that Haynes' injury wasn't very serious.

During one team period, the offense was sloppy and committed three false start penalties. Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the team were thrown off the field before being allowed to come back later. The Chiefs need to do a better job of not allowing bad plays to affect the next play, according to Eric Bieniemy.

Gilmore continued his strong practices with another great day. One of Gilmore's highlights was a play in which he jumped a sideline route in front of a receiver to make an pick-six. Frank Reich said that he can tell you from a quarterback's perspective that he's the kind of corner that you don't like. He knows what's coming before it happens. Gilmore and Ryan are engaged in a chess match. Ryan said that he had been picked off before.

Top NFL news of the day

According to a source, running back Kareem Hunt requested a trade from the Cleveland Indians, but the team declined that request. Hunt missed team drills the past two practices but returned to them on Sunday.

After a lot of injuries to start training camp, the Buffalo Bills offensive line is getting better. The guard was in uniform for the training camp practice after being activated from the non- football injury list. The training camp began after he injured his ribs in a car accident. He is expected to be the starting left guard for the Bills. He seemed to be limited in his first practice.

A source tells Jeremy Fowler that N'Keal Harry suffered a severe ankle injury during practice. When a screen pass was thrown in his direction, Harry went down on the first play. When Nicholas Morrow tackled him, the wide receiver appeared to have rolled his ankle. A trainer and teammate helped the receiver off the field because he couldn't bear the weight on his ankle. The severity of Harry's injury is still being evaluated, and no decision has been made on how long he will be out.
