The infectious disease specialist told Fortune that it was only a matter of time before monkeypox made it to congregate settings.

There is a chance for monkeypox to be spread in daycares, schools, college campuses, prisons, and similar settings, according to a doctor.

She said that anyone who is in various stages of undress is at risk.

The governor has been in touch with the White House about the situation.

Schools and congregate living settings aren't the only ones ripe for spread Swimming pools and waterparks are on her list of places where transmission could occur.

She said that wrestling and football could prove problematic.

As people continue to travel and participate in activities, hopefully an outbreak can be contained more locally. I believe this will be more widespread. Almost every state in the U.S. has had at least one case.

According to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 7,510 cases have been identified in the U.S. Wyoming and Montana were the only states with cases.

Almost all of the cases reported since January were in countries where monkeypox is not considered endemic. The US leads the world in identified cases, followed by Spain, Germany, the UK, France, and Brazil. In African countries where the virus is endemic, only 345 cases have been seen since the beginning of the year. The World Health Organization said that 81 children had been exposed to the disease.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized the use of Jynneos without jumping through normal hoops for potentially affected children at the center. They said that vaccinations and mobile testing were on site.

The FDA told Fortune via email on Friday that the vaccine was being approved for such children via a single patient application. When no comparable or satisfactory alternative options are available and requested by the treating licensed physicians, applications are processed and approved.

There is a chance of general approval for the use of Jynneos in children.

Jynneos can be used off label if it's given to children who have been exposed.

She said that researchers will want to collect safety and immunogenicity data on these kids and follow them closely since there is no existing data for use in the child population. If this can prevent a larger outbreak in the children's population, that is very important.

She said the vaccine is worth the risk.
