After a second-half own goal by Alexis Mac Allister, the Seagulls were able to hold on for a 2-2 draw. They have never won at Old United. The Man United 1-2Brighton report was published. The ten Hag era is off to a bad start. The optimism that came from a positive summer has gone away. It wasn't expected that Ten Hag would fix things overnight, but there was hope that the first two games would give us a chance to start well. It seems that apparently not. The visitors went in at the break with a 2-0 lead, but it could have been more. United were better after half-time and pulled one back, but they weren't good enough to beat the Seagulls. - ESPN+ guide: LaLiga, Bundesliga, MLS, FA Cup, more (U.S.)

With just three weeks to go before the transfer deadline, his squad still feels at least two players short and he desperately needs a centralMidfielder. Graham Potter's side showed the transition to a new style of football is going to take time despite fielding a team that should have beaten the Seagulls. Ten Hag is going to learn very quickly that United is never more than one game away from a crisis. The man was made to wait. With Anthony Martial out, Ten Hag decided to use Christian Eriksen as a false No. 9 instead of keeping the 37 year old on the bench. According to Ten Hag, it was becauseRonaldo had missed most of preseason and had only 45 minutes in the summer friendly, but Eriksen and Lisandro were both picked to start. After a disastrous first half that saw United booed off, it wasn't long before the Portugal forward was on in place of Fred, and the team looked much more dangerous. Ten Hag blamed defeat on lack of self-belief. The union of Ten Hag andRonaldo looks uneasy at this point. There are doubts about whether he can press in the way his manager wants, but United are short of options, and he is as close as he can get to guaranteed goals. Speaking at a news conference on Friday, Ten Hag suggested Martial might be available again soon, so it will be interesting to see if he is left on the bench for United's next game. It's a big call to leave him out of a new team. Potter wants to play for England. If the FA decide to look for a new coach after the World Cup, Potter will be high up on their list. Even though he doesn't have a lot of resources, Potter still produces a team that is better than its parts. They are formidable opponents for almost any team in the premier league because they have a clearly defined way of playing and are well- coached. One of the best goals of the season was Gross' second. United's high press was left in tatters by a series of clever passes and clever movement by the Seagulls. Potter guided his team to a ninth-place finish last season, but if they continue to play like this, they should be setting their sights higher. There is a downside to any more success for the Seagulls, and that is that their manager might leave for England.

The Seagulls were fantastic in the first half, and Gross was the epitome of their work rate and tactical efficiency, scoring twice from close range after good moves.
United fans did not want to see Fred and Scott McTominay together in the middle of the field, but that's what they got. Fred was taken out of the game in the second half after he made a mistake. He wasn't the only one who had a poor game.
It was nice to see United explain the thought process behind their lineup decisions on social media.

It is possible that this is the only time you will see Gross mentioned in the same sentence as Salah.
One brings two ✌️

It was the worst possible start to the season for us, as we were 2-0 down at the half at Old United. It wasn't enough. We got a goal back but we puffed a bit and it was a bad start. Everyone was aware of the task. We had a poor season. We've got a new manager trying to put his philosophy on the team, but when we don't get it right, we look too open.
It was a deserved victory. It's a good way to start. When we could, we tried to put them under pressure. The boys were brave and positive. The group we have is ambitious, not perfect, but they give everything and that gives you a chance.
We cannot ask for more. There are three points away from home. Today is a big day for us. I want to score more goals against Man United. I'm not sure why. The game plan was great and we stuck to it. The team was clinical in front of the goal.
The first goal was scored by Manchester United last year. They had 11 losses this season, which was their most in a couple of years.
In their last two matches against Manchester United, the Seagulls have scored six more goals than they had in their previous seven matches.
Manchester United lost their opening match of the season for the second time in three years. They won five consecutive season opener.
The club were 0-12-2 in their first 14 visits to Old Trafford in all competition before Sunday's win.
With United facing two tricky games in the weeks to come, Ten Hag has to put this result behind him.
The Seagulls will travel to the south coast to take on West ham on August 21st.
