An American woman got married in South Korea and hid her dress from the groom.

Rachel said she moved from New Orleans to Gyeonggi-do nine years ago. There she met her husband. A couple from South Korea, Rachel and Jaehwan, got married in Ansan on June 18.

South Korean wedding traditions were largely followed by the couple's wedding. They had a photo shoot in wedding attire months before the ceremony and used the photos for their invitations and a photo table at their venue. Rachel didn't wear her wedding gown for the ceremony because she didn't want the groom to see it before the actual event.

It has become more common for couples in the US to have a "first look" with their partner before the ceremony, but Rachel wanted to keep her dress a secret.

She hid her dress with an umbrella and a lot of fabric, so that she wouldn't notice.

In South Korean weddings it's common for the bride and groom to greet guests and take pictures with them before the ceremony, according to Rachel. Rachel wanted her wedding dress to be a surprise so she changed into her gown.

There was an obstacle in the way of Rachel going to the private bridal waiting area to spend time with family and friends before the wedding.

Rachel said that the private changing room was on a different floor than the wedding hall.

She said she had to find a way to prevent her husband from seeing her in her dress as she walked through a crowd of guests from the elevator to the bridal waiting room.

One of her friends came up with the idea of using an umbrella and white fabric to cover Rachel's dress. Rachel sewed it together the day before her wedding and her twin sister and sister-in-law helped her get ready for the ceremony.

She could surprise Jaehwan with her wedding dress, which was a silk, floor-length gown that she wore with matching elbow-length gloves, a veil, and dazzling earrings.

On June 23, Rachel shared a video of Jaehwan's reaction to her walking down the aisle in her dress on her social media accounts.

Rachel found her vintage wedding dress for $200 in New Orleans

She bought her wedding dress for $200 while visiting her family. She wrote about her experience on Tuesday.

She wore a dress for her pre- wedding photos. During our pre- wedding photo shoot, I wore a big princess dress, but I didn't feel like myself at all.

Rachel said she has no regrets about hiding her dress until the day of the wedding.

She wanted to walk down the aisle to Sixpence None the Richer's "Kiss Me" with her husband.

It took a little creativity to get it done.
