A beluga whale is trapped in the River Seine and French officials are trying to save it by using a cocktail of vitamins.

The beluga's appetite is believed to be stimulated by the injection so it can continue its journey through the river to the English Channel.

According to the head of Sea Shepherd, the environment is not very welcoming for the beluga, the Seine is polluted and the cetaceans are sensitive to noise.

The whales are vulnerable to a number of stressors, including pollution, habitat degradation, and other types of human activity.

The beluga whale appears to be underweight and officials are worried about its health, regional authorities said.

It's not known how the whale ended up in the river. The beluga's skin was found with small spots, but officials aren't sure if it's a reaction to the water in the river or a sign of the animal's declining health.

A killer whale was found dead in the River Seine in May after it became ill with a rare disease.
