The new abortion ban in Indiana was criticized by the Biden administration.

The White House called the Indiana legislature's move a "devastating step" and a "radical step by Republican legislators to take away women's reproductive rights and freedom."

The new law, which was passed by the Indiana House and Senate on Friday, prohibits most abortions in the state, but allows exceptions in cases of rape and incest before 10 weeks post-fertilization, as well as when a mother's life is at risk. It goes into effect on September 15. The Democrats in Indiana voted against the bill.

All abortion clinics will be shut down under the new legislation because they can only be performed in hospitals. The bill states that doctors who perform illegal abortions will lose their licenses.
