The car was Rachel Bestman's new start.

Bestman's world turned upside down when she realized that her car wasn't in its usual spot.

Bestman noticed that her car was missing when she left for work.

Bestman told Insider that she was in distress and that she was in denial. I went through the parking lot and blamed it on myself. I misplace my vehicle.

Bestman said the security guard called the tow yard to find her car after approaching her. She was told that her car was towed after it was found at the exit of an apartment complex.

She said that the maintenance guy told the tow driver that there were four males hanging from the doors and that they all fled when he approached the car. The car had two broken tires.

The "Kia Challenge" is a social media fad that has gone viral.

She thinks she is a victim of a competition.

People are posting instructional videos on the internet that show how to steal a car by using only a charging cord after damaging the ignition.

Bestman said that the mentality of people to take someone's hard-earned money and just trash it is ridiculous. It was over a trend. The icing was placed on the cake. It was a really bad day for me.

Local police recently warned residents about the rise in car thefts

There has been an increase in auto thefts. Almost 200 cars have been stolen in the last 2 weeks.

The data shows that there was an increase in car thefts. Law enforcement in North Carolina said that all of the recent car theft incidents showed damage to the ignition. Insider did not get a response from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

In a statement to USA TODAY, the two companies said that their vehicles meet or exceed the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

Bestman shared her story on TikTok to raise awareness

Bestman's emotional video on TikTok has been viewed over 11 million times.

"If I could prevent this from happening to anyone else, that's the goal, and I feel really good that I did that or that the awareness is out there, I really do." People have supported each other.

The owner of Outlaw Towing, who refused to give his last name, confirmed to Insider that he towed the woman's car, which had two flat tires.

Shannon has not had any cars with the same damage as Bestman's in his tow yard.

Shannon told Insider that since Bestman posted the TikTok, he's gotten calls from people all over the country and in Charlotte checking to see if he has any stolen cars. I don't have their cars so I tell them to call 311. I don't tow every stolen car.

Bestman said that she's now stuck with multiple bills to repair the car and pay the tow company, but is grateful to those who have helped her during this time.

She said that she had been receiving cash apps. I want to feel the love from strangers who don't owe me kindness, and they're not the ones that took my car. I'm just thankful.
