Biden has been isolated at the White House since last Saturday, when he tested positive for something O'Connor called a "rebound" case.

Biden is one of a small number of Covid patients who have suffered from rebound cases due to taking Paxlovid. According to Pfizer, clinical trials found a small amount of rebound positivity after patients completed a pill regimen, but anecdotal reports suggest that number may be higher in real world settings. The White House Covid response coordinating doctor said at a news conference last month that he thinks the rebound rate after taking Paxlovid could be around 5%.
