The average price for a gallon of gas in the US fell to $4.08 on Saturday, the lowest price in more than a year.
Texas has the cheapest gas in the US at $3.59 a gallon, followed by South Carolina at $3.62 and Arkansas at $3.54.
Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, Missouri, and Kansas all have an average price of less than $4 a gallon.
Patrick De Haan of GasBuddy says at least 12 gas stations are selling gas for less than $3 a gallon.
The average gas price in the United States is $3.79 a gallon.
California has the highest average gas price at $5.47 a gallon, followed by Hawaii at $5.42 and Alaska at $5.01. Alpine County, a rural area along the Nevada border, has the highest average gas price at $6. The highest gas price in the nation is in the county.
The national average will fall below $4 a gallon in the next week, and could go as low as $3.59 a gallon in the coming weeks if the U.S. coastline doesn't get hit by hurricanes.
After the national average peaked at $5.02 a gallon in June, gas prices have fallen for 53 days. According to the Energy Information Administration, demand for gasoline dropped to 8.54 million barrels per day last week, which is 1.24 million b/d less than the same time last year and around the level of consumption at the end of July 2020. The price of crude oil went up due to factors such as diminishing U.S. refining capacity and an embargo on the import of Russian oil.
