During the team's traditional "Family Night" practice at Lambeau Field on Friday, the Packers' starting safety was injured.
During a one-on-one match with the receiver and the defensive back, he pulled up while trying to cover the player. The first-round draft pick watched the rest of practice from the sideline with ice on his leg.
"I don't think it's a big deal," he stated. It is a fast- people injury. There are some things you cannot avoid. I'll just listen to those guys and be all right.
Those feelings were echoed on Saturday. The Packers could play it safe and hold him out for a bit just to make sure there wasn't anything more to worry about.
Green Bay's defense has mostly had its way with an offense that's led by four-time Most Valuable Player quarterback Rodgers but is adjusting to playing without All- Pro receiver Adams. The defense continued to play well with Vernon Scott in the lineup.
The starting offense ran seven plays in the red zone but only scored once. Rodgers threw a touchdown pass to Lewis on the second play.
Adrian Amos broke up a pass to Randall Cobb, De'Vondre Campbell stopped Aaron Jones on a jet-sweep style flip from Rodgers, Shawn Davis almost intercepted a pass intended for Allen Lazard, and Dean Lowry dropped Jones on a run.
There are a lot of areas for improvement according to coach Matt LaFleur. One thing that we've challenged our defense on is the consistency with stopping the run, and then I think they've done a good job defending the pass and not giving up a ton of big plays down the field."
Rodgers predicted at the start of camp that the offense was going to get its butt kicked most days by a defense that might be the best since winning the Super Bowl. Campbell, Douglas and Walker were re-signed by the Packers.
The Packers have struggled without Adams, who was traded to the Raiders in February.
LaFleur said it was a double-edged sword. The defense is going to be very difficult to deal with. Consistency up front is something that we need to improve. I think we have a good defense. I hope they are making our offense better because our front seven can be salty. It doesn't matter who is out there. We need to see improvement over the course of the next week and into the preseason games.
The Packers will play the 49ers on Friday night.
