Delaware Animal Services wants the public's help after a dog was found "barely alive" off North Little Creek Road.

A dog is "clinging to life" in a wire crate hidden among tall weeds near the Route 1 overpass, according to a news release.

An animal welfare officer arrived on the scene and found a dog that was unresponsive and covered in blisters. Most of her hair was gone. Despite best efforts to save her, the dog died from her condition, the agency said.

She was wearing a blue-orange-and-white-striped collar at the time of her death. Her nails were long.

Her condition made it impossible to determine her breed and she did not have a chip.

It is a crime in Delaware to kill or hurt an animal. According to the Delaware code, anyone found guilty of such a felony will not be allowed to own or possess animals for 15 years.

The public is urged to call Delaware Animal Services if they have any information about this incident. Information can be reported on the internet.
