The GOP will hold its next convention in Milwaukee, the largest city in the swing state of Wisconsin, with Ronna McDaniel announcing on Friday.
Milwaukee was approved as the convention host site by the Republican National Committee.
After the city council of Nashville, Tennessee, rejected a draft agreement with GOP officials, Milwaukee seemed to be a shoo-in to host the convention.
The Milwaukee bid was recommended by a Republican selection committee last month.
The convention is expected to take place before the Democratic convention. The convention is usually hosted by the party of the president. Democrats haven't picked a host city.
Winning Wisconsin will be one of the top priorities for the GOP in the future, as it's one of five states that flipped blue in the 2020 presidential election after former President Donald Trump narrowly carried it in the 2016 election. In contrast to earlier eras of American politics, today's party showcases feature prominent speakers, including the party's presidential nominee, in stark contrast to the drawn out nomination battles and factional infighting of the past.
The 2020 Democratic Convention was hosted by Milwaukee but all in-person events were canceled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. In his home state of Delaware, President Joe Biden accepted his award.
