Running backs coach James Saxon is on paid administrative leave as he waits for a court date on domestic battery charges. Saxon was charged with two counts of domestic battery and a Level 6 felony for allegedly hitting a woman in front of a child.
The Cardinals said in a statement that they notified the league of the incident. The matter is currently being reviewed. There will be no further comment.
The team was aware of the situation when it occurred, according to the coach.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Saxon is accused of starting an argument at an Indianapolis-area warehouse club and then going to the home of the woman he was arguing with.
A trial date could be set in August when an attorney conference is scheduled.
The maximum sentence for a Level 6 felony in Indiana is six months to 2.5 years in prison and a potential fine of up to $10,000. The other charge has a sentencing range of up to a year in prison and a possible fine of up to $5,000.
Saxon has been a coach for the team.
The warrant for Saxon's arrest was recalled in June. Saxon had a bond. Saxon was fitted with a monitoring device after a restraining order was issued but it was removed after the state objected.
Saxon is accused of hitting a woman in front of two children during an argument with her mother. One time Saxon pushed her and she fell into the garage door. The woman claimed that James yelled at her, "You got your gun?" Just shoot me now!
Saxon was hired in February. He has been an assistant coach for 23 years and a player for eight years in the National Football League.
