John Legend said on Thursday that his friendship with West has never been the same since he supported Donald Trump.
Legend said on the August 4 episode of "The Axe Files" that his friendship with the rapper had ended.
When he started backing Trump, West said that he felt like a superhero because of the hat. At the time, West said that he supports Trump because they both have dragon energy.
The two men met at the White House. In 2020 the rapper continued to support the president.
West said in July 2020 that he was running for president but missed the deadline to register to be a candidate in at least four states.
It became too much for us to sustain our friendship because we disagreed on a lot of things.
According to legend, West was annoyed with him for not supporting his candidacy.
He was not happy about that, you know what I mean. We have not been close since then.
West's openness with who he is and his struggles with mental health were cited by Legend as reasons why he thought West was real.
There's not a lot about West that people don't know, according to Legend. He's been upfront with all of the things he's dealing with. What you see with him is what you get.
In April of last year, Legend and West had a war of words over West's politics.
"I love that great, brilliant artists have the power to imagine a better future," Legend wrote in his reply. Artists need to be aware of the truth.
In September of last year, Legend's wife said that her husband and West had patched up their differences, but that he still stood by his statements.
Representatives for West and Legend didn't respond to Insider's questions.
