iRobot, the company best known for the game-changing Roomba, is joining Amazon. The acquisition of iRobot by Amazon is valued at over $1 billion and will be done in an all cash transaction. The senior vice president of Amazon Devices made the statement.

Proteus, a robot that is suspiciously Roomba-shaped, was announced by Amazon earlier this summer. One of the company's first attempts at using smart navigation tech was "Bert," a robot that could retrieve items from shelves.

In an email to Gizmodo, Amazon said that it had no plans to use iRobot's technology in its warehouses.

As the company sees a push for unionization and better warehouse working conditions, it comes at an interesting time as it pivots to self-contained warehouses. On Prime Day, warehouse workers at Amazon started a petition to get the attention of the public.
