Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes has retired from one-day internationals, but will continue to play Tests and T20s for England

The interim England and Wales Cricket Board chief executive said that the warning over the schedule demands on top players had been heard.

Part of the reason for the retired from one-day internationals was the relentless schedule.

He and Bairstow decided to take a break from The Hundred.

"We need to listen to those who are expected to deliver, entertain and inspire," saidConnor.

When Tom Harrison left his post as chief executive, the former England women's captain stepped up to the role of managing director of women's cricket.

Connor is likely to be in the interim role until at least the autumn and has not ruled out applying for the job full time. A new chair of the board is imminent.

In an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation, Connor said:

  • It is a "huge blow" for The Hundred to be missing Stokes and Bairstow
  • The "healing" process following the racism scandal has begun
  • English cricket should brace itself for more discomfort from an independent report into equity in the game, due later this year
  • The women's T20 competition in the Commonwealth Games will paint a "favourable picture" for cricket's bid to be included in the Olympics
  • "Unpopular" decisions may have to be taken over the domestic structure in order to benefit the England men's teams

'We have listened closely to Ben'

He said there is too much cricket rammed in for people to play all three formats.

You can't just fill us up and we'll be ready to go again.

She doesn't have all the answers for easing the packed calendar, but she understands the need to limit what is being asked of players.

She said that they had listened to what Ben had said. The International Cricket Council and the Professional Cricketers' Association are all involved.

The players are at the center of what needs to be done. We don't have a game that has the wow factor to inspire without them.

Defending men's champion Southern Brave defeated Welsh Fire in the first match of the Hundred.

The women's tournament will not suffer from second-season syndrome despite the absence of Bairstow and Heather Knight.

The total number of tickets sold for last year's inaugural event was less than half of what was sold this year.

She said that the whole game should be confident in the next month of cricket.

'The healing has started'

A year ago, English cricket was engulfed by allegations of racism from Azeem Rafiq and others.

Rafiq labelled the English game "institutionally racist", while a parliamentary report recommended withholding public funding if progress was not made to eradicate racism.

The European Central Bank published a five point plan in November to tackle discrimination and racism.

The game apologized to the people it had let down, according toConnor. We are making good progress, but we are not where we need to be.

The healing has begun. We know that we aren't the modern, inclusive sport that we need to be for everyone to feel welcome in.

It is about cricket becoming gender balanced and serving communities that it has let down in the past.

The allegations of racism at the club were brought to the attention of the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Andrew Gale, one of those charged, has said he will not engage with the process, has not been interviewed by the ECB, and has had his life defined by allegations.

The Cricket Disciplinary Commission has been fair to all parties, according toConnor.

The well-being challenge this is presenting to many people is something that I am aware of.

I am confident that it will reach a conclusion that we need to reach in order to move on.

The Independent Commission for Equity in Cricket is due to release a report later this year.

"I don't think we should be under illusions that the game is going to get more difficult to accept and grow from," saidConnor.

The truth in where cricket still needs to improve will be told to us by them. We need to accept that.

Possible 'unpopular' decisions over domestic game

The men's national side needs a high- performance review to make them the best team in the world in all three formats.

Recommendations for changes to the domestic game will be part of the review.

On Wednesday, The Cricketer reported on a fan survey which showed opposition to a reduction of County Championship matches, and then on Thursday, the cricketer reported on a support for the reduction of County Championship matches on social media.

He said it was so bloody.

If the recommendations are made for the sake of the England team, unpopular decisions could be made.

The main goal of the high- performance review is to make the England men's team the best in the world.

English cricket as a system plays its part in the overall ambition of the men's domestic structure.

It's a chance for cricket to improve.

"50-50" on 2028 Olympic inclusion

The England team took part in the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, with a T20 competition for women marking the return of cricket to the event after 24 years.

The games will have a higher average attendance than any other global women's cricket tournament because more than 150,000 tickets have been sold.

The success of the Commonwealths will increase the chances of cricket being included in the Olympics in Los Angeles.

She said that figures, ticket sales and enthusiasm around women's sport will paint a positive picture.

The International Olympic Committee and the International Cricket Council are talking about cricket's inclusion in the Olympics in the year 2028. Would it be a men's and women's event? The whole thing is to be worked through.

When asked if she wanted to stay in the position permanently, she said she had not been put off by her brief time in the role.

She said it was an honor to be in it. I'll see where I am in the months to come.
