The parents of a 6-year-old boy who was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre were awarded more than $4 million by a Texas jury.
The jury in Austin must decide how much the host must pay in damages to the parents of a boy who was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
At least $150 million was sought by the parents for defamation. Jones said any award over $2 million would sink us, and his attorney asked the jury to limit the damages to $8.
Jones claimed that the attack was staged in order to increase gun control. The judge in Connecticut ruled against him in a lawsuit brought by other victims' families and an FBI agent.
The financial threat Jones is facing is underscored by the Texas award. Although the company's finances remain unclear, it raises new questions about the ability of Infowars to operate.
Jones admitted during the trial that he was wrong to say the attack was fake. Heslin and Lewis urged jurors to make Jones pay for the years of suffering he has put them and other Sandy Hook families through.
The parent company of Jones' media company filed for Chapter 11 protection during the trial.
