With the Warner Bros. and Discovery merger shaking up, there is increasing speculation over the future of the original content of the show. We can't help but be reassured that The Penguin and Peacemaker are safe for now. Will they survive?
David Zaslav, president and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, re-affirmed his stance on "embracing theatrical." The cancellation of the nearly-completed Batgirl movie looks to be casualty of what he called " aggressive steps to course-correct the previous strategy," and during a Q&A portion he gave a bit more insight as to why. A 10-year plan for DC is going to be built by a team of people. When a film is released in theaters, it's no comparison to expensive films. We have made a change. To grow the DC brand and protect the characters is the goal. In regards to planning, at least, but not necessarily taking the same approach with stories, Zaslav likened the studio's approach to that of Alan Horn, Bob Iger, and Kevin Feige.
