New managers, teams, players and rules are in this season

Football is trying to fit in a winter World Cup as the 31st premier league season begins.

Who are the new people this season and how does the winter break work?

All is explained by the BBC Sport.

New rules

The number of times each team can make a substitution has gone up.

After the first Covid in 2020, the rule was brought in by the premier league.

English football went back to having three subs.

Five replacements will be allowed from the bench. After which no more subs can be made, teams have three chances to use their five subs.

The anti-racism gesture will no longer be used before selected games.

If there is a medical emergency in the stands, the games should not be stopped.

When there is an immediate chance of a goal and tight calls, assistant referees have been told to only raise their flag for an obvious offside.

Sniffer dogs will be used to find flares and smoke bombs in games.

When the ball is out of play, the premier league will introduce a multi-ball system.

There will be a match ball, one with the fourth official and eight around the pitch on cones.

The league will assess each team's request on a case-by-case basis.

It says that the impact of player unavailability on a club's squad is truly exceptional and that the club concerned has taken all reasonable steps to avoid the necessity to make the application.

There is a new toy.
