Rumors suggest that Apple will release a larger version of the HomePod in the future. The mini will likely launch in more countries over time.

There are a lot of rumors about the future of Apple's smart home plans.

New HomePod With S8 Chip

Mark Gurman reported that Apple is working on a new device with the same chip as the Apple Watch Series 8.

Gurman said in June that the new HomePod would be close to the original one in terms of size and audio performance, and that it would have an updated display on top. Gurman said that it isunlikely to arrive until next year.

There "may not be much innovation in hardware design" when Apple releases a new HomePod in the fourth quarter of 2022, according to an analyst. It's not clear if he was talking about a new version of the HomePod or the mini.

The original HomePod is seven inches tall and has the same A8 chip as the one used in the iPhone 6. Apple lowered the speaker's price to $299 in April, even though it was $349 in the US when it was first launched.

The audio quality of the speaker was praised in early reviews, but it was expensive and held back by the drawbacks of the device. The speaker has become something of a collector's item since it was discontinued and has been selling for high prices on eBay. There is a chance for a new HomePod to be more of a success if it has the right features and price.

HomePod Combined With Apple TV

According to Gurman, Apple is planning a new device that combines a camera, Apple TV, and a home device. He said that this device would be at the center of Apple's approach in the home.

Gurman claims that Apple has been developing new speakers with screens and cameras since early 2021. In the smart home accessories market, such a device could compete with the likes of the Nest Hub.

At this time, there is no further information about the device.

HomePod Mini in More Countries

Apple released a new version of its software last month. Performance and stability improvements were included in the update, as well as support for Siri in Swedish and Norwegian.

The addition of Swedish and Norwegian support will likely lead to the release of the mini in those two countries. In the last few months, Apple has been testing the HomePod mini with a select group of users, so it's possible that the mini will eventually be launched in the two Nordic countries. Danes and Finns are not listed as supported languages yet.

The HomePod mini was released in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Switzerland at the end of March.

Matter Support

Matter is an upcoming standard that will allow compatible smart home accessories to work together on multiple platforms. An update for Matter support is coming later this year, according to Apple.

If you want to control Matter accessories with the Home app, you'll need an Apple TV, Apple TV 4K, or Apple TV HD.
