Surprising Fact

According to reports, Dick Cheney sounded off against Trump. The book "This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America's Future" states that the former vice president referred to Trump as a "maniac."

Key Background

Unseating Cheney is one of the top priorities for Trump in the upcoming elections. Cheney has a 27% approval rating among Wyoming Republicans, and more than half of them said they were less likely to support her because of her service on the House committee. Cheney paid a political price for voting to impeach Trump and being on the committee. The Republican National Committee censured Cheney in February of this year after she was forced out of her position as chairwoman of the House Republican Conference.

Six of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump decided not to run for reelection. Two congressmen lost their GOP primaries, while two others are struggling in open primaries. David Valadao is expected to lose to his opponent in the general election despite surviving a primary.
