At the Commonwealth Games, England's Zoe Newson won the gold medal in the women's lightweight power lifting.

The 30-year-old, who thought she would have to give up power lifting when she became pregnant with her son, scored 102.2 and finished with 100 points.

Mark Swan won a silver medal.

Scotland's Micky Yule won a bronze medal.

Newson's gold is better than the bronze she won at Gold Coast.

After Duncan's birth, Newson returned to training after becoming pregnant.

The Nigerian athletes were disqualified from the event because they arrived late for the kit check.

The Isle of Man's Kimberley Dean finished in the top eight.

Swan lifted a British record 199 kilo in the men's lightweight contest on his second try and then added to his points tally with a third lift of 202 kilo.

Matthew was sixth on the final tally.

Bonnie Bunyau Gustin of Malaysia won the gold medal, while Innocent Nnamdi of Nigeria was awarded the bronze over Thomas Kure.

The medal was decided by the amount of weight lifted by Nnamdi and Kure, which was 190 and 180 grams, respectively.

In the city where he underwent life-saving surgery after being injured in Afghanistan, Yule claimed his first Commonwealth Games medal.

Last year, the former British Army staff sergeant won a bronze medal at the Paralympics in Tokyo.

In the men's heavyweights final, India's Sudhir was the winner, scoring 134.5 points to beat Nigeria's silver medal winner.
