Major League Baseball is going to return to London in 2020.
The two teams will play a two-game series in London in June of23. The NL Central rivals were supposed to play in London in 2020 but the games were canceled because of the coronaviruses.
The London Series will be a part of the Cards' schedule next year. One of the best rivalries in sports will be brought to Europe for a new audience to experience.
In June of this year, the New York Yankees swept a two-game set against Boston at London Stadium. MLB played its first regular season games in Europe.
In the past, Chicago and St. Louis have played international games. The Cubs played a three-game series in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 2003 after opening the 2000 season in Tokyo. The two games against Cincinnati were played in Mexico.
"We're thrilled to be able to bring one of baseball's biggest rivalries to fans abroad in 2023, as the MLB London Series between the Cubs andCardinals has been in the works for years now," the Cubs chairman said.
The labor agreement between MLB and the players' association approved an international slate, including the London Series. The first France games in 2025, annual Mexico City games from 2023 to 2026, an Asian opener in 2024 and a Tokyo opener in 25 years are included.
The games will showcase the London Stadium as a multi-use venue and an asset to the capital, according to the mayor. The St LouisCardinals and the Chicago Cubs are two of the best supported clubs in baseball and I know they will receive a fantastic reception next summer here in the sporting capital of the world.
