England defeated New Zealand at the NEC Arena to set up a Commonwealth semi- final against Australia.

The world champion was defeated by the hosts 54-40.

After the Diamonds lost to Jamaica, England will face Australia.

At one point, New Zealand and the Roses were tied at 25.

This is one of the best crowds I have ever played in.

England took a 15-8 lead at the end of the first quarter after a frenetic start for both sides.

New Zealand was able to cut England's lead to one goal at half-time due to a slower second 15 and a few basic errors.

Jo Harten, who has been playing with a knee injury, was replaced by Eleanor Cardwell, who was playing at her first Commonwealth Games.

England made a rush of turnovers in the second half to get back into the game.

In the third quarter, England's defenders stole the show, with Geva Mentor and the rest of the team doing a great job.

Coach Jess Thirlby was out of her seat in joy after Cardwell scored a long ball after a mid-court pick up.

The Roses celebrated in a way that was more worthy of a final than a group game, with spectators in full voice and on their feet.

They repaid the fans' efforts with a performance that will stoke hopes of a second successive gold after they claimed their first Commonwealth title four years ago.

The group like making history and we have a big task against a wounded team.

They will be very rational about their performance against Jamaica and they have the same route as us to the final.

Jamaica stun Australia

Jamaica beat Australia 57-55 on Thursday to win the pool A title.

In Saturday's other semi-finals, Jamaica will face New Zealand and the winner will play for the title.

Fowler scored 47 of her 50 attempts under the post against Australia to help her team win the gold medal.

Wales earned their second win of the tournament, defeating Barbados 60-44, before Northern Ireland beat Trinidad and Tobago 42-31 for their first points of the game. Scotland lost to South Africa in their last game.
