The UN chief criticized oil and gas companies for making record profits from the energy crisis on the back of the world's poor.
In the first quarter of the year, the largest energy companies made combined profits of around $100 billion.
All governments should tax excessive profits and use the funds to support the most vulnerable people.
"This grotesque greed is punishing the poorest and most vulnerable people, while destroying our only common home, the planet," said the UN Secretary-General.
All of us are losing money because of inflation and the oil and gas industry is making excessive profits. He said that tax the excessive profits and give the money to the most vulnerable families would be popular.
The crisis group has already presented recommendations on food and finance, and according to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, they are making some progress.
The secretary-general proposed a grain deal to the Russian and Ukrainian presidents that would allow Ukrainian grain to be shipped from Russian-blockaded ports on the Black Sea to world markets in desperate need. The first ship to leave the Ukranian port was headed to Lebanon.
During the Ukraine war, speculators and obstacles caused food prices to go up. Since negotiations on the grain deal gained traction, he said, there has been a significant fall in the prices of food and farm products.
It doesn't mean that bread in the bakery is at the same price before the war, because these are quotations in wholesale markets, some of them related to futures
Rebeca Grynspan, the U.N. trade chief who coordinated the crisis group, said wheat prices are down 50% from their peak, corn prices have dropped 25% in the past month, and crude oil is around $93 a barrel. She told reporters that only natural gas has bucked the trend.
Grynspan said that falling prices are good news, but they have been high for too long and have risen since June.
The crisis group encourages richer developed countries to conserve energy by reducing air conditioning and heating use and promoting public transport.
New technologies, including storage for batteries, should become public goods, and governments need to expand their supply chains, according to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Private and multilateral finance should be scaled up in order to finance the green energy transition. It supported the International Energy Agency's goal of increasing investments in renewable energy by a factor of seven to meet the goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions to "net zero" by 2050.
The secretary-general of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development stated that developing countries are spending $150 billion on clean energy. They need to spend a lot of money.
