The Utah man is accused of starting a fire while trying to burn a spider with his lighter.

According to the probable cause statement, Martin spotted the spider while he was hiking in the foothills south of Salt Lake City. He admitted to starting the fire, but didn't explain why he was burning the spider.

He didn't seem to be high after Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon found a jar of marijuana.

Cannon said there was no evidence that he started the fire. The area and most of Utah are in a dry spell.

Cannon didn't know what led him to stop and notice a spider. Maybe there isn't a reason. He may not know a reason.

Court documents show that Martin was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

On Tuesday, he was in the Utah County Jail. He was not sure if he had a lawyer.

As of Tuesday, the fire had burned less than one square mile, according to fire officials. There had been no damage to homes.
