The Dallas Cowboys and Anthony Barr agreed to a one-year contract on Wednesday.
According to a source, the deal is for $2 million but can go up to $3 million.
The Cowboys wanted to add some veteran help to their roster with no other player with as much experience at the position.
The Cowboys have a second-year player coming off a knee injury. He has missed the past two days of work but there is no concern over his status.
A four-time Pro Bowl selection, Barr had a career-high three picks to go along with 2.5 sacks and 72 tackles last season.
He missed the first four games of the 2020 season after having a procedure on his knee.
He was able to hit free agency after the 2020 season because of his reworked contract. Barr's salary and bonuses were reduced from $12.9 million to $10 million, with a fully guaranteed base salary of $9.4 million, after he missed the last 14 games of 2020 due to a torn pectoral muscle.
There is a connection between Barr and George Edwards, who is the Cowboys senior defensive assistant.
The former UCLA star was drafted by the Vikings in theninth round. Barr transitioned to an off-ball role in the 4-3 scheme in which he was used strategically on blitzes designed around his skill set. Barr was ranked as the 12th best pass-rusher at his position and 14th in coverage by Pro Football Focus.
During his time in Minnesota, Barr wore a green dot on his helmet, which he used to call defensive plays.
Barr signed with the Vikings less than a day after agreeing to a deal with the New York Jets that would have paid him fifteen million dollars per season for five years.
