The representative, her communications director, and her district director were killed when a car crossed the center line and hit Walorski's car.

Edith Schmucker, the driver of the other vehicle, died on the scene.

The crash is being investigated by the coroner's office and sheriff's office.

Walorski had been in office for four years, representing Indiana's 2nd District. She was a ranking member of the House Ethics Committee at the time of her death. She was a state representative for three terms.

Legislators expressed their grief on social media. Pete Buttigieg said that she was always willing to work together where there was common ground and she cared about her work.
