Gina Kennedy became the first English woman to win squash gold at the Commonwealth Games.

She became the first English woman to win a Commonwealth squash title.

Kennedy rose from 185th to the top 10 in less than a year and reached her highest ranking in July.

She wished she could say what this meant to her.

I can not. I've been thinking about how it would feel for a long time after this dream became reality.

I've been working on this for two years and now it's happened, I'm speechless. To be the first English woman to play in a major league baseball game is amazing. After winning the gold medal, I could retire and be happy.

Kennedy said that winning Commonwealth gold would be the absolute pinnacle achievement.

She will be joined on the podium by England team-mate Sarah-Jane Perry, who won bronze in the bronze medal match.

With King looking to have one hand on the medal, and having lost the first two games, world number five Perry won 6-11 9-11 11-8 11-9 14-12.

Four years ago, he was beaten by King in the Commonwealth final, but he has had some good comebacks.

In the men's singles final, Wales' Makin had to settle for silver, beaten by New Zealand's Coll in a nail biting match.

The fourth place finish at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games marks the first medal for Makin.

England's James Willstrop, the defending champion in the men's singles, missed out on a podium finish this time around, as he was beaten in the bronze medal match.

India's first ever squash singles medal at a Commonwealth Games was won by a man who used to be coached by Willstrop's father.
