The school said that Bueckers will miss the 2022-23 season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her knee.

According to the school's release, Bueckers injured her knee in a pickup basketball game and had an MRI the next day that confirmed the torn anterior cruciate ligament. The release didn't say where the junior guard was playing when he got hurt. She missed a lot of time last year because of the knee injury.

She will have an operation at the University of Connecticut Health. Her recovery timetable will be updated after the procedure.

She said she is leaning on her faith to move forward.

It's so crazy because you work so hard to get back healthy, you feel stronger than ever, and you are playing your best basketball and suddenly it all shifts. I can't help but think that God is using me as a testimony as to how much you can overcome with him by your side, even though it's hard to comprehend. It's going to be one hell of a comeback for the little kid that just tore their knee.

She said the prayers and love meant so much to her and the doubts that she wouldn't get back to where she was might mean more. Even if I have to walk through a nightmare in order to get a dream, I will keep believing.

Bueckers was the first freshman to win the consensus national player of the year and helped the women's Final Four team. She averaged 20.1 points, 5.9 assists and 2.3 steals that year.

After missing 19 games last season due to a left knee injury, Bueckers came back to help lead the team to the national championship game, where they lost to South Carolina. She finished the season with a total of 14.6 points, 4.0 Rebounds and 3.9 Assists.

What Paige Bueckers accomplished as a freshman, before she missed 19 games during her sophomore season with a knee injury: • First freshman to win AP Player of the Year • AP All-American Honors (1st Team) • Naismith Trophy & Wooden Award winner • Big East POY & Freshman of the Year

• 3rd-most points scored by a freshman (108) in a single NCAA tournament -- Tamika Catchings (111 in 1998) & Cheryl Miller (109 in 1983)

Geno Auriemma said they were all devastated by the news. She's worked hard to get stronger and healthier, and this is an unfortunate blow. It's unfortunate that this has happened to her, she's a better person and teammate, and she's an amazing basketball player.

She'll do everything she can to help her teammates, even though she won't be on the court. Through her healing process, our program will support her.

The University of Connecticut will have lost more than half of its scoring output due to the loss of Christyn Williams and Evina Westbrook. Azzi Fudd andCaroline Ducharme both had left hip surgery in April.

According to HoopGurlz, the University of Connecticut has two of the top five incoming recruits.

The AP information was included in the report.
