ByteDance may be getting ready for a global launch of TikTok Music service. The U.K., Singapore, New Zealand, Mexico, Malaysia and Costa Rica are some of the countries where TikTok Music has a trademark.

Business Insider reported last week that there was a "TikTok Music" trademark filing in the United States. ByteDance had a trademark in Australia.

Similar text about the application's functions is included in all of these trademark filings.

The trademark application states that it would allow users to purchase, play, share, download music, songs, albums, lyrics, quotes, create, recommend, share his/her playlists, lyrics, quotes, take, edit and upload photographs.

ByteDance already operates a music streaming service called Resso in India, Brazil and Indonesia, and a former ByteDance employee told us it had previously considered bringing this service to more markets under a "Tik Tok Music" title. The source said that it was considering launches in Australia and the U.K.

Resso has the same features as those described above, with TikTok-like scrolling to go through songs, the ability to change cover photos for playlists, lyrics displayed on the lock screen, and comments on songs and albums.

According to mobile data, Resso has seen good progress in its existing markets since it was launched in 2020. According to Sensor Tower, the company saw 42.3 million downloads from the App Store and Google Play in the first five months of this year, an increase of 19% over the same period last year. The app has had more than 180 million downloads to date.

TikTok has had a big impact on the music industry with many hits being driven by different videos on the platform. According to a report released by the company last year, 175 songs that trended on the short- video platform ended up on the chart. According to a report published by a U.K.-based music investor, popular songs on TikTok can lead to more views and streams on other music streaming platforms. Record labels are getting a boost from TikTok. According to reports, TikTok paid $179 million to recorded music owners in 2011.

ByteDance wants to grab all the traffic and streaming money it can from its own music service. The company launched a pre-release feature last week so the artists can leak their songs to the audience before the official release.

The launch of TikTok Music would mean an additional revenue stream for Byte Dance and a complete music solution service that can offer artists solutions to publish their songs through SoundOn, market them on TikTok and get people to listen to whole songs on TikTok Music/Resso Music streaming giants like Apple Music and Deezer would have a hard time competing with this service.
