One of the main targets of the Russian invasion was the airport known as Hostomel. Almost all of the infrastructure at the airport was destroyed when the armed forces fought a battle for it.

We were given the chance to visit the damaged airport on July 20, 2022.

The An-225 has no nose section and is still standing.

The last flight of the An-225 was from Billund, Danes to Hostomel, Ukranian.

Main Hangar

The hangar is next to an An-124. The entire plane is damaged. There are bullet marks in the back of the plane. There was no way to see inside during the visit.

The hangar had an An-28 in it. There are at least two damaged aircraft at the airport, as well as some smaller ones.

There were signs of heavy fighting in the hangar building.

Office and Old Hangar

The old hangar and the office of the airline are damaged. Several tanks and armored vehicles are destroyed on the site. The military base next to the airport has been almost destroyed.
