The Yankees acquired Gold Glove-winning center fielder Harrison Bader from the St. Louis Cards for left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery.

Bader has not played since June 26 because of a foot problem.

When he returns, he would likely play center field with Andrew Benintendi in a move that would put him back in right and put Judge back in the lineup.

Brian Cashman said that Harrison Bader is one of the elite center field defenders in the game. He gives us lots of lanes.

The New York Mets traded strikeout prone outfielder Joey Gallo to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a minor league right-handed pitcher.

Montgomery was 3-3 with a 3.69 in 21 starts, but 0-2 with a 5.36 in the last eight outings His departure came one day after the addition of a new member to the rotation.

Montgomery said it was pretty shocking.

Domingo Germn is likely to stay in the rotation even though Luis Severino is out until at least mid-September because of a strained lat. The Yankees believed Montgomery wouldn't be needed for the start of the playoffs.

St. Louis got a lefty from Pittsburgh.

The president of baseball operations said they wanted to start pitching. We felt like we were missing out on something.

On Tuesday, Austin Allen was traded from Oakland to St. Louis.

The Yankees acquired right-handed pitchers Scott Effross and Lou Trivino.

The Bronx is about 5 miles from Yankee Stadium. He was drafted by the Cards in the 3rd round.

He made his big league debut two years later and hit.267 last year with 16 homers and 50 RBIs. His 15 defensive runs saved were 10th in the majors and he earned a gold glove.

Montgomery is 22-20 with a 3.84 earned run average in six big league seasons. He was out from May to September due to an elbow injury.

Montgomery doesn't think he's performed the way he should. I think I was a better player than I have ever shown.

Montgomery's salary is $6 million and he is eligible for an appeal. After the 2023 season, both Montgomery and Bader are free to sign with any other team.
